Two jailed for robbing elderly woman in Harlingen

Two Harlingen men are behind bars after they allegedly attacked and robbed an elderly woman on a downtown sidewalk.

Harlingen police arrested 19-year-old Marco Martinez and 22-year-old Victor Rodriguez on aggravated robbery charges Tuesday morning.

The two are accused of sneaking up behind a 79-year-old woman grabbing her purse off North 6th Street and East Tyler Avenue around 8:30

Investigators told Action4 News that the elderly woman was thrown to the ground injuring her right shoulder and legs as well as breaking her glasses.

Witnesses gave a description of the woman's attackers.

Officers arrested Martinez and Rodriguez at an apartment near North 7th Street and East Harrison Avenue.

Both men appared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Wednesday morning where they were each issued $20,000 dollar bonds.
