A roach infestation led to a 3-day closure of Xalisco Mexi Café along S. 12th Street in Edinburg.
The business had its permit temporarily revoked by an inspector for the public health risk.
As customary with the Food Patrol, we asked the restaurant’s owner why the roach problem had gotten so bad.
Simon Madera blamed the 103 year old building that housed his restaurant, the warmer weather and his employees who failed to keep up with fumigation.
Madera also called our line of questioning “demeaning.”
But people who eat at had a different take on the Food Patrol’s inquiry into public safety.
