Residents in the South Texas brushland got the unexpected on Saturday night: a 4.0-magnitude earthquake.

The first reports of the earthquake came out on social media outlets such as facebook and Twitter.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the 4.0-magnitude earthquake hit 15 miles east of Alice, Texas at 9:10 p.m. Saturday.

Maps show the epicenter to be near the rural Nueces County community of Agua Dulce.

Officials with the Nueces County Sheriff's Department said no injuries or damage were reported.

Action 4 News also spoke with the Alice Fire Department.

They said chairs in their office moved but did not know what happened until they started receiving telephone calls from area residents.

The Alice Police Department said they started receiving a lot of calls after 9 p.m. Saturday but have no reports of damage.

Action 4 News will post more information as it becomes available.
