McAllen couple's grandchildren aboard bus wreck

Two Iowa teens traveling to visit their grandparents in McAllen are safe after a bus carrying them and 33 others crashed killing two people.

The Des Moines Register is reporting that and 16-year-old Amanda Rewerts and 14-yaer-old Chrissy Rewerts were on Spring Break and among the passengers of ill-fated Autobuses Americanos bus.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the bus to crashed south of San Antonio in Campbellton on Tuesday morning.

The two Nevada, Iowa sisters and at least 30 people were hospitalized but two people were killed.

The Des Moines Register reported that the two teens were traveling to the Rio Grande Valley with classmates Ashli Decena and Miranda Gibson.

The Iowa newspaper reported that Chrissy Rewerts was fine but her sister Amanda required medical attention.

Family told the Des Moines Register that Amanda did not appear to have internal injuries but would be held overnight for observation.

“For a couple of hours there, I didn¹t know," the girl’s mother told the Des Moines Register."It's just a mother's worst nightmare."

Action 4 News is working for confirm that a passenger from Brownsville was killed in the bus accident.
