A group gassing up at the CITGO on Southmost got way more than they bargained for Thursday night.
“They get into a verbal exchange with the individuals and then he starts pointing a gun at them," said Sergeant Jimmy Manrrique with the Brownsville Police Department.
Sources close to the case told Action 4 News, the alleged suspects, Luis Villarreal and Joanna Gonzales' intentions were to steal a vehicle and ditch their own green Cadillac.
But unfortunately for the suspects, their chosen victims didn’t budge and quickly alerted police.
The would-be carjackers escaped empty-handed before police got there.
They then headed to a Stripes Convience Store on Price Road and Old Port Isabel and struck again.
This time when they pulled their gun they weren't so lucky.
Brownsville police arrived just in time to bust them.
“The female and male that were inside the green Cadillac not only did they have the weapon but they had large amount of pills," said Manrrique.
Investigators allegedly found 141 ecstasy pills valued at about $20 dollars each as well as some roach pills and cocaine packets.
For now Villarreal and Gonzales are off the streets but Manuela Salinas who frequents the Southmost gas station calls the situation alarming.
She only wishes this incident will help make a difference, “I hope they will patrol more at night."
Both suspects were arraigned Friday morning.
Villarreal was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon while Gonzales faces multiple charges of drug and weapons possession.
