Hidalgo County Judge Rene Ramirez told Action 4 News that an independent auditor will be hired to go examine records at Sylvia Handy's office.

Handy resigned as Precinct 1 County Commissioner earlier this week. She made the decision following a guilty plea in federal court to tax fraud and harboring illegal immigrants.

The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court is expected to meet at 5:15 p.m. today to discuss appointing a replacement for Handy.

County Judge Ramirez met with reporters on Friday morning.

He said an outside auditor will be hired to come in and go through all Precinct 1 records.

Action 4 News will post more information as it becomes available.
