At least one man was killed in a three-hour shootout that took place in a neighborhood behind an former Halliburton facility in Reynosa.
Tamaulipas state officials confirmed at least one man was killed in the violence.
Twitter users reported a shootout in the area on Wednesday morning.
Reynosa city officials confirmed a series of explosions between vehicles around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the city's Twitter account, a "serious" incident involving risk was talking place in the Colonia Casa Bella behind Reynosa's Halliburton facility.
City officials offered no further details but said the incident ended shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Authorities had been asking residents to stay away from the area.
Halliburton company officials said as of December 2009, the company is no longer located at or affiliated with the facility in Reynosa near incident.
Twitter users report that the former Halliburton facility was empty at the time of the shootout.
Tamaulipas state officials reported that Mexican federal authorities are handling the investigation.
