A San Benito man is behind bars in Harlingen after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman who asked him for ride.

Harlingen police arrested Thomas Lee Martinez on a sexual assault charge over the weekend.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the 25-year-old San Benito man gave the woman a ride but then threatened her.

Police said Martinez allegedly  forced the woman to have sex with him.

The woman came forward and Harlingen police were able to locate Martinez.

The 25-year-old man remained in custody at the Harlingen City Jail as of Tuesday morning.

Jail records showed he had a $100,000 dollar bond for the sexual assault charge and $735.80 dollars in unpaid tickets.
