A gang leader is behind bars after allegedly giving the order for a shooting where a 16-year-old girl was shot in the face.
Jose “Killer” Garcia is behind bars under an attempted capital murder charge.
The Brown Pride gang leader is accused of giving approval for a shooting in Lopezville that ended with two people associated with the rival Chicano gang being shot.
One of the victims, a 16-year-old girl, remains in stable but critical condition in a San Antonio hospital after being shot in the face.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies told Action 4 News that investigators started surveillance on Garcia’s girlfriend Cynthia Ann Hernandez after the shooting.
She allegedly led deputies to a home off 1st Street and Business 77 in Harlingen.
Deputies said both Garcia and Hernandez left the home in a car but Harlingen police pulled them over.
The two were arrested without incident.
Both Garcia and Hernandez are expected to face a judge at the Hidalgo County Jail at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Garcia is facing an attempted capital murder charge while Hernandez is facing a hindering apprehension charge.
