Authorities are searching for a Brown Pride gang leader following a weekend shooting where a 16-year-old girl was shot in the face.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to Church Street in Lopezville around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a fight took place between members of the Brown Pride and Chicano gangs.

The fight ended with a 16-year-old member of the Brown Pride gang shooting at a car.

Chicano gang member Danny Saavedra was injured as was a 16-year-old girl who was with him.

Deputies said the girl was shot in the face and had to be taken to a hospital in San Antonio where she's listed in stable, but critical condition.

Investigators said the 16-year-old gunman was arrested but deputies are looking for 36-year-old Brown Pride leader Jose "Killer" Garcia.

Deputies believe Garcia gave the 16-year-old consent to fire on their rivals.

Garcia and his wife were the targets of a driveby shooting at the hands of the Chicano gang in December.

Anyone with information about Garcia's whereabouts is asked to call the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at (956) 668-TIPS.
