Four alleged marijuana smugglers are behind bars after surveillance cameras caught them with more than 857 pounds of marijuana in El Ranchito.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Jeovanny Davila-Ramirez, Eduardo Zapata-Gutierrez, Modesto Sustaita-Martinez and a juvenile on Tuesday night.

Court records show that border security cameras spotted them crossing the levee her H. Rodriguez Jr. Road in the rural Cameron County community of El Ranchito.

Border Patrol agents responded to the area and found five bundles of marijuana weighing 857.5 pounds scattered across a field.

The four accused smugglers allegedly had shoulder strap marks on their backs from backpacks used to haul the marijuana.

The three adults appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio on Thursday morning.

Judge Recio denied bond for the three men until a Monday morning hearing.
