A former Matamoros principal is being investigated for alleged ties to a Mexican drug cartel after being caught with 12 bundles of cocaine.
Brownsville police arrested Juan Antonio Treviño on a possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver charge Wednesday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that they received tip through their crime stoppers hotline that drugs were being sold at a home at 2644 La Villita in the Southmost area of Brownsville.
Police officers put the house under surveillance and allegedly saw Treviño walking out of the house and going into his car with two packages.
The officers questioned Treviño and found two more bundles of cocaine the front seat of his car.
Officers allegedly found another eight more bundles of the drug stashed in his car.
Investigators said another car pulled up to the house. The driver had six more bundles of cocaine and some black tar heroin.
The driver of the second car was held for questioning but Treviño was arrested and charged for the cocaine in his car.
Authorities believe that Treviño's cocaine bundles have a combined street value of $374,000 dollars.
Brownsville police told Action 4 News that they believe more people are involved in the case.
Investigators did not disclose what school Treviño worked for but said they believe he has a connection to a Mexican drug cartel.
