A 12-year-old Sebastian boy was arrested and jailed at the Darrel Hester Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities tell Action 4 News that the boy is accused of injuring a 10-year-old playmate with fireworks.

Willacy County Sherriff Larry Spence said the charges stem from an December 22nd incident where the 12-year-old stuck fireworks down a 10-year-old boy's shirt.

The two were reportedly playing “war games" at the time of the incident.

The fireworks exploded and the 10-year-old suffered second degree burns.

A hearing will be held Wednesday afternoon to determine whether to keep the 12-year-old at the detention center or if he will be released to his parents.

Sheriff Spence said the 10-year-old boy is ok. He was treated and released from the hospital.
