CBP: 35 pounds of cocaine found in car's floor

A Brownsville woman is spending the holiday weekend in jail after she allegedly tried to smuggle almost 35 pounds of cocaine into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Norma Cavazos on federal drug smuggling charges Wednesday.

Customs officers at the Gateway International Bridge allegedly found 34.94 pounds of cocaine hidden in the floorboard of her 2005 Chevrolet Equinox.

She allegedly told investigators she being paid to deliver the drugs in Brownsville.

Cavazos faced a federal judge in Brownsville on Friday morning.

She remains in custody without bond until a Tuesday morning hearing.
