A Brownsville man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to smuggle 74 pounds of marijuana into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Agripino Lara III on marijuana charges Sunday.

The 19-year-old Brownsville man allegedly drove in from Mexico in Pontiac Grand Am.

A secondary inspection allegedly revealed 74 pounds of marijuana hidden in the rear walls of his car.

Lara was turned over the custody of the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution on state charges.

The 19-year-old resident of Dukie Drive in Brownsville remained in custody in the Cameron County Jail as of Monday morning.
