Details are starting to emerge in a shooting at Fort Hood that has left 12 dead and at least 31 wounded.

The Associated Press is reporting that one gunman was killed while two others were taken into custody.

The shootings began around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

KCEN-TV from Waco reported that one of the shooters had a high-powered rifle and was reportedly aiming to kill.

The TV station reported that suspect was wearing an Army uniform with a Major's rank. He may have fled to another building.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that a congressional aide for U.S. Rep. John Carter was on the base to attend a graduation service.

He told the Statesman that he was nearing the building where the service was being held when a soldier with blood on his uniform ran past him and said a man was shooting.

The congressional aide told the Statesman that the shootings appeared to have occurred near a theater where the service was scheduled.

The Statesman reported that the the injured soldier appeared to have been struck in the shoulder but did not have life-threatening injuries.

Todd Martin with the Killeen Independent School District told the Austin American-Statesman that there are seven elementary schools and two middle schools on the post itself.

“Those have been locked down since this began,” Martin told the Statesman. The other schools in the district outside the post have not been locked down, he said.

The victims have not been identified while the Fort Hood website remains down.
