A legal saga between former Donna Independent School District Superintendent Andres Martinez and his former employees entered a new phase Tuesday morning.

Jury selection for Martinez's federal lawsuit began on Tuesday morning before U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane in McAllen.

The case has been tied up in state and federal courts for more than six years.

Martinez alleges that Donna ISD board of trustees members went after him when he refused to go along with political rewards and punishment scheme back in May 2001.

The lawsuit alleges that the former school board members wanted to hire and promote relatives and supporters while punishing district employees who supported their opponents during the race.

Court records list the defendants as:

  • Donna Independent School District
  • George Hernandez (current school board member)
  • Eloy Infante (former school board member)
  • Aniceto Santana (former school board member)
  • Saul Mata (former school board member)
  • Richie Moreno (former school board member)
  • Gustavo L Acevedo
  • Jaime J Munoz
  • Rudy Salinas

Court records show that a jury is expected to be selected by the end of the day Tuesday.

Opening arguments and testimony are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The trial is expected to last one to two weeks.

Response to Martinez comment

They probably bad mouth because they believed her lies and she did what she does best, back stab and use people to her advantage. Once she is done, she gets rid of them, just like she's done before to many people.

What the end of the Technology Director

Posted by Joe Martinez, Donna - Wednesday, November 04, 2009 at 9:02 a.m.

Well its about time, I still think its two years too late. First we hear them saying how good this Vitalization project is, now we here them say how bad this company is, and even bought in another consultant, well the same one, Weaver, but not Richard another Weaver. They lost most of their follower, the Master Technology teacher and their Tech. Instructor, you can now find them at High school bad mouthing the Director. Well to you two, very disappointed how at first you were defending her cause at any cost, now its just sad.
But good for Mr. Martinez that finally is exposing them. These people have managed to manipulate and terminate or get rid of the good employees using their attorneys and other government officials. DonnaISD this is what these people represent, but then again you elected them.

Another suit, another dollar

Donna again? How many more suits does the community have to pay in tax raises? law suits and bond issues are the things that keep us paying more end more taxes every year... sad and disgusting.
However, Good for Mr. Martinez, for evidencing the disgusting level of corruption in which those board members operate, especially Mr. Hernandez and all his family members on the board.
They look and operate almost like a poor copy of a cartel... but a very cheap one

When evil men advance against me
to devour my flesh,
when my enemies and my foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall. Psalms 27:2

It is time to stumble and fall!
