Despite having ordered a large number of H1N1 vaccines, many students at the University of Texas at Brownsville said they won’t be taking it.
University officials are trying to determine how to best distribute the thousands of doses that will be making their way to the Rio Grande Valley school.
Every student that Action 4 News approached with the exception of one told Action 4 News that they would not be taking the vaccine or that they did not know enough about it.
UTB’s Vice President of Business Affairs Doug Arney said the school is expected to receive the vaccine in groups of 1,200 doses at a time.
Arney said UTB did an on-line survey to figure out how many staff and students would take the vaccine once it arrives.
School officials plan to charge $5 dollars for the vaccine.
"Right now of the people who've responded, we have an 85% response rate saying that they would participate and take the vaccine at a nominal fee,” Arney said.
