Authorites are trying to determine if a body found on the shores of South Padre Island could be that of a missing shrimper.
The shrimper went missing after falling overboard from the "Si Se Puede" fishing vessel over the weekend.
U.S. Coast Guard officials suspended the search for the shrimper earlier this week.
Cameron County Pct. 1 Constable Horacio Zamora told Action 4 News that authorities recovered a body of a man north of Beach Access 6 on South Padre Island.
Zamora said his office received a call from a passerby who found the body around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputy constables found the body about 12.8 miles north of beach wearing only black shorts.
The victim has not been identified, but is described as a male about 50 to 60 years old, about 5’2 to 5’4. He had several tattoos including one of a rose and one of the Virgin Mary.
Investigators are not confirming at this point, if the body is that of a shrimper that went missing over the weekend.
The search for the shrimpers was suspended by the Coast Guard Monday evening.
Zamora said the case has been turned over to the Willacy County Sheriff’s Department because the body was found on their side of the Island.
