Authorities are investigating the murder of a man whose body was left in Matamoros with an alleged warning not to call the Mexican Army with anti-crime tips.
The man’s murder was reported in the Metro Noticias de Tamaulipas newspaper’s on-line edition Tuesday.
The newspaper reported that the man’s body was found in a white 2002 Jeep Liberty abandoned in the city’s Fraccionamiento Satélite neighborhood.
The man’s identity has not been released but police told Metro Noticias de Tamaulipas that he had been shot in the head.
The newspaper reported that a sign had been left with the following message written on a posterboard:
“Para que sigan llamando 816 54 80, denuncia ciudadana, pues un mundo nos vigila”.
In English, the sign reads, “For those who continue to call 816 54 80, citizen’s complaint, we are watching.”
Action 4 News checked the telephone number and learned that it goes to the Mexican Army’s fort in downtown Matamoros.
