BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS -- After a brief postponement, the trial resumed Tuesday for a Harlingen man accused of not getting medical treatment for his 2-year-old daughter.

A psychologist testified that Roberto Alvarez is competent to stand trial.

Alvarez is accused of doing nothing after his daughter, Mariah, was injured from a beating.

Mariah later died from her injuries.

The girl's mother, Melissa Lucio, was convicted in 2008 and sentenced to death.

Testimony continues Wednesday.
