AUSTIN, TEXAS -- A bill recently introduced in the Texas legislature aims to establish a law school in the Rio Grande Valley.

Deep South Texas has fewer attorneys than any other part of the state.

District 39 State Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez said he wants to change that with the proposed legislation.

Currently, the closest law school is in San Antonio.

"It's time that people understand that South Texas doesn't stop in San Antonio," remarked Rep. Martinez.  "It stops down at the border, where our people are from, and they deserve to have the same opportunities to educate themselves as the rest of the state of Texas does."

Rep. Martinez has also filed a bill to establish a medical school in the valley.
