BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS -- A Rio Grande Valley man admitted to authorities that he did more than just work at the Academy Store in Brownsville.

Brownsville police said Jose Rios has confessed to taking more than $7,000 dollars of merchandise from Academy.

The store conducted it's own investigation after noticing things were missing.

Store managers confronted Rios, and he reportedly confessed to the crimes.

"It was a lot of equipment that he stole," said Sgt. Jimmy Mánrrique with the Brownsville Police Department.  "We suspect he was probably selling the items he was taking from the store for personal profit."

Rios faces up to two years behind bars.
