Neither a DWI arrest nor an ethics complaint could stop Jesse Contreras.

The Democrat candidate sailed into the judge's seat for the 449th state District Court on Tuseday night.

Contreras maintained a comfortable 64 percent lead throughout the night.

As of 12:03 a.m. Wednesday and with 140 of 140 precincts reporting, Contreras received 78,400 votes or 64 percent of the ballot.

Republican rival Danny Rios ran negative campaigns focusing on Contreras' recent arrest for DWI.

Rios was appointed by Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry to the newly-created court but only received 43,263 votes or 36 percent of the ballot.
