A jailed drug chase suspect has now been charged for allegedly hitting a Border patrol unit with his car.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Gustavo Hernandez following a July 22 drug chase that started off Rio Rico Road and Military Highway south of Mercedes.

On Monday, federal prosecutors charged the 43-year-old man with assault of a Border Patrol agent.

Court records show that Hernandez was the driver of one of two Grand Marquis involved in a drug chase.

One of the cars crashed in a ditch but Hernandez allegedly led Border Patrol agents on a chase that ended in the rural Cameron County community of Santa Maria.

A criminal complaint alleges that Hernandez swiped the passenger side of a Border Patrol unit with his car during the chase.
