Several activist organizations called for immigration reform in front of U.S. Senator John Cornyn's office in Harlingen on Monday.

La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) and several organizations told Action 4 News that they wanted to show their dissaproval to what they're calling the Republican Texas seantor's unsupportive behavior for Latino issues.

Although Senator Cornyn's office was closed, the picketers called him by cell phone and chanted in unison for better representation for the Hispanic community.

Marta Sanchez with LUPE said they are seeking a legislation for comprehensive immigration reform and support on several other acts in Congress up for legislation.

"We feel he needs to represent us also," Sanchez said. "We're under his jurisdiction. We also feel he needs to represent us as Hispanics because we got very disturbed when he didn't publically support Sotomayor and that gives us a sign he's not representing us."

Sen. Cornyn's staff told Action 4 News they would have met with the organizations but the office was closed that day and they were not notified about the event.

The Texas senator said in a written statement released Monday that he supports immigration reform.

“Today President Obama backtracked on his promise to address comprehensive immigration reform during his first year in office," Cornyn said on Monday. "After stating several times on the campaign trail that it would be a ‘top priority,’ I am disappointed he has changed his tune. Immigration reform is long overdue and belongs on President Obama’s full plate."

Cornyn went on to ask President Barack Obama to make immigration a priority again.

“It’s important that immigration legislation protects our borders, promotes economic prosperity in Texas and throughout the United States, and is consistent with our American values of compassion, family, and opportunity," Cornyn said in his statement. "I urge President Obama to reconsider his decision and put immigration reform back on his priority list."

E-Verify, Amnesty, illegal Immigration & Health care

Posted by Dave Francis, Indianapolis, IN - Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 7:08 p.m.

The American people are at the end of their fuses, because for decades they have been supporting hundreds of thousands of businesses who hire illegal immigrants? Hundreds of billions of dollars are going into the pockets of corporate executives, because they pay--nothing--other than minimum wages to foreign nationals. Businesses are very well aware that taxpayers will keep supporting the 20 million plus already here, because a government mandated laws says its demanded of us? European Industrialized nations are also in the same place, having to deal with a EU parliament who are also forcing the same mandatory laws. In America there is a safety net for people who have lost their jobs and forced into the breadline?

But illegal alien families who broke our sovereignty laws, have intentionally taken advantage of public welfare and federal legislation that gives them a right to our schools, health care and a whole barrel of benefits instead of US residents. Now President Obama wants to give AMNESTY, rewarding these people for crossing our almost defenseless border. This must not happen to the American workers and the rest of our population, because the Heritage Foundation has stated that just in retirement and pensions it exceeds $2 Trillion dollars. Even legal immigrants numbers have accelerated to 1. 5 million annually. We need no more poor, uneducated to sustain in America. We must cut down quotas to only the skilled contributors, who will not become a public charges. Then does anybody have an answer for those who will come after this AMNESTY? Eventually the millions who will come here, will lead to irreversible OVERPOPULATION.

WE ALREADY HAVE IMMIGRATION LAWS, BUT HAVE SADLY BEEN UNENFORCED AND ARE NOT BROKEN? THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, WANT ABSOLUTELY--NO RESTRICTIONS-- ON HOW MANY FOREIGN CHEAP LABOR CAN BE ALLOWED INTO THE US? OBSERVERS HAVE SEEN THE FINANCIAL IMPACT OF MASS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION INTO THE SANCTUARY STATE OF CALIFORNIA?
Get involved with the power of E-Verify, a composite of the SAVE ACT, to remove illegal immigrants from businesses. Promote in addition 287(g) police law to question persons about their immigration status and stop the weakening of ICE raids and NO MATCH LAW. DON'T LET YOUR POLITICIAN GET AWAY WITH THESE IMMIGRATION TRAVESTIES? Like millions of livid Americans call 202-224-3121 GOOGLE NUMBERSUSA for the Facts, not lies.

Immigrants

Immigrants are in a hurry to get legalized in the US. The fact is our country is one of the most liberal when it comes to immigration. Who else would let
Cubans who have been living in Mexico or other countries come ask for political asylum. Asylum is asked from the country where you are living. Then they turn around and go back to Cuba to visit friends and relatives in Cuba after they ask for political asylum. Border crossers come and have their children in the US on our dime and go back to Mexico. Later their children grow up and get welfare because they are "Americans" and have a right to it. We should cancel the visas of people who have their children in the US. They have their children in the US to immigrate to the US through their children or so their children can go to school in the US for free and by claiming to live in the US (fraud), so their children can work in the US or live in the US. Our immigration laws are a big joke. The bigger joke is the politicians that don't demand that our immigration laws be enforced.

protests

why don't illegals ever protest against their own country and its policies that helped "force" them over here in the first place?

Latino Issues!

I am happy to see Americans protest and demand equally from a man that is George Bush's whipping boy! He voted against Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor ("wise latina") because the NRA (National Rifle Association) was keeping score. I hope more Americans (regardless of race) stand up to this clown! Yet, come election time....it's the Hispanic vote he seeks. (don't worry raza, he will speak a little spanish, eat some homemade tacos and then he will take your vote and money!)Politics! Politics! Politics!

Immigration Reform

I also think Senator Cornyn is weak on Immigration, He should support sending everyone here illegaly back to where they came from. As fare as representing us as hispanics I think he should be represent us as Americans. On the Sotomayor thing I think he did OK. By the way Channel 4 I saw some County Employees at the ralley some taking active parts! were they on county time?
