Federal funding has reached UTB-TSC  with the aim to help minority students with an interest in biomedical research.

Congressman Solomon Ortiz (D-Corpus Christi) announced that the University of Texas at Brownsville-Texas Southmost College would receive over $150,000 dollars in stimulus funds.

The money will be used to supplement a biomedical research program already at UTB.

The program houses the students in Brownsville for 2 years then encourages them to move on to grad school.

"I`t will help us to produce more work shops, more training activities, more travel opportunities for our students in that program," said Eldon Nelson, UTB dean of the school of health sciences.

The funding comes from a chunk of money allocated from the federal stimulus package.
