Former Starr County Sheriff Rey Guerra plead guilty to one count of conspiracy this morning.

He entered the plea in federal court in McAllen.

According to his attorney Phillip Hilder, Guerra will be sentenced in July.

The two other remaining charges on his indictment will be dropped at the time of sentencing.

The conspiracy charges specifically deals with providing information to a co-defendant in the case, after the fact.

Hilder told Action 4 News that Guerra recognizes he made a error in judgment and takes responsibility for his actions.

The Houston-based attorney said his client apologize in court to his family, friends and constituents whom entrusted him and supported him through this ordeal.

Malice and judgement

There are so many people who are quick to judge and condemn. I believe that Mr. Guerra is a good man who has always been highly liked, approachable, and humble. I pray that no one ever goes through what he and his family have been subjected to. The media sensationalizes every aspect of the situation, people run amuck with rumors, gossip, and malice, and you have yet to hear one harsh word out of Mr. Guerra's mouth. I pray for you that are so quick to condemn, without the facts. I pray for those who are so filled with malice and anger- that you continue to lash out and hurt a man such as he. His wife and family support him 100%! No one in his family ever lived the luxurious lifestyle pple alledge. Instead, each and everyone of them work hard to ensure they can provide for themselves. I pray for Mr. Guerra. And I pray for those who slander and hurt people just because they can!

What is up with all the harsh comments... I seriousely belive that we are all human, remember human not PERFECT beings. Yes several of our law enforcements have been up in the news lately but lets not forget there are plenty of good people serving as law enforcement out there. Honestly I think you should let God be the judge of it. I know that these comments will not change the way that you think but I just want to see you be PERFECT before you can say anything about anyone.

Does anyone out there have any confidence in law enforcement anymore? I sure don't. Lets see in the past year Custom Agents, U.S. Marshalls, Border Patrol agents, Sherriffs, State Troopers, Local Police Departments have all been arrested/indicted for their involvment in criminal activity. I guess the greed is just too much for these individuals. When the highest paid law enforcment (Feds) are taking bribes you know the agencies that pay far less such as the state, county and city are sure to follow. Sad.

Guilty to One charge?

Posted by rene gonzalez, harlingen - Friday, May 01, 2009 at 12:02 p.m.

Wow so he admits to being guilty to one charge only. How likely is that..."I only did it once" ha ha ha yeah right. So why are the other charges going to be dropped? Once a rat...always a rat. You will probably to server your time and go right back to Starr County and serve as one of the current lawyers right hand man...just like Gene Falcon....hell only in Rio
