MCALLEN, TEXAS -- Transportation Security Administration officers at our Rio Grande Valley airports learned useful communication skills Thursday.

In all, 24 TSA officers received extra training using emergency high frequency radio communication and satellite phones.

They skills will come in handy if ever phone and power lines are brought down due to a hurricane or other natural disasters.

"This is a need after a hurricane and we have to be able to communicate if traditional means of communication are down," said TSA's Andrea McCauley.

Organizers said they learned a valuable lesson following Hurricane Katrina, when the storm brought down all communication.
