Conservationists are calling this year's sea turtle nesting season a record year on South Padre Island.
Jeff George with Sea Turtle, Inc. told Action 4 News that volunteers discovered a green sea turtle nest near the Port Mansfield jetties.
It's the second such nest for the endangered sea turtle on island in the past 25 years.
The eggs have been secured and are expected to hatch in mid-August.
George said volunteers they also found the first leatherback sea turtle nest in 100 years on the island near Corpus Christi.
Another 51 nests for Kemp-Ridley sea turtles have also been documented on South Padre Island.
Eggs from those nests have already begun to hatch.
George said his group is asking motorists to slow down while driving on the beach this summer.
