After six years, plans are in motion to finally finish a cinema like none other in the valley.

Not only can you watch a movie -- but you can drink alcohol while enjoying the flick.
The partially constructed 100,000 square foot building has sat dormant on the corner of Trenton and Jackson for more than six years.

Having changed ownership four times since construction halted, the latest owner, B-Y Properties was finally able to find a movie house wanting to move forward with the project.

While it won't carry the Alamo Drafthouse name, Cinemark will continue with the same concept, offering a variety of foods and alcoholic beverages inside the theater.

Edinburg Economic Development Corporation project manager Leticia Reyes says it will be a one of a kind theater in the valley.

"It means there are more options for people that come here to the university to study or for everyone in general,” Reyes said.

More importantly it will bring more businesses to the area.

"I'm sure more businesses will locate there and that means more jobs, and more sales tax for the community and we can definitely work more projects,” Reyes said.

The building will house other retailers and shops which the Edinburg EDC will announce in the coming weeks.
 
Business owners in the half built shopping plaza say it's what they have all been waiting for.

"I think our business will thrive because all it can do is go up from here,” owner of Moonbean Luis Beltran said. “They will continue to building this area there is a lot of room and we are excited to be a part of it."

"My whole crew is happy because it translates into more hours, more pay, and more tips for the girls and more word of mouth spreading,” owner of LanaDee’s Family restaurant, Rocky Luna said.

Luna opened up his restaurant across from the vacant theater seven months ago hoping the theater would open and bring them more visibility.

"Hopefully we get a lot more foot traffic with people coming over here and other businesses opening up alongside it. We're just ecstatic,” Luna said.

The Cinemark Movie Bistro is expected to open summer 2013.
