Texas Gov. Rick Perry was in Harlingen on Tuesday to announce an accelerated college to jobs program.

Perry spoke at Texas State Technical College where school officials already offer a number of two-year programs.

But Perry announced a new program focusing on advanced manufacturing would cut educational training to about a year.

The Texas governor said he hopes it will put people back to work and get the economy going now.

Gov. Rick Perry says this program will kick off September 2013 at TSTC campuses in Harlingen and East Williamson County just outside Austin.
