Ever since the downfall of the U.S. economy back in 2007-2008, Americans across the nation have come to know that stretching a dollar can be extremely hard.

That holds especially true for residents of the Rio Grande Valley where the median income is among the lowest in the country.

Gloria Casas spoke about the Financial Education Summit, coming to Brownsville, on Action 4 Sunrise.

It will be held on Thursday, October 18 from 10 to 8 p.m.

Admission is free for all to attend and learn about how to guard your money and spend smarter.

In Brownsville alone, 35.8% of residents live below the poverty level, with a median family household income of $30,134.

For those that are still in high school, this is an event that is perfect for you to attend.

There will be information for you to utilize as you go on to college.

$6,000 in scholarships will also be handed out throughout the day at the summit, to give you a head start in furthering your education.
