Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day.

Pharmacies across the Rio Grande Valley are kicking it off with a month-long campaign encouraging their customers to vote.

The Rio Grande Valley Independent Pharmacy Association has partnered with ACCT Now to increase local voter turnout in the upcoming election.

Starting in October, some 45 pharmarcies across the Valley will distribute 130,000 prescriptions in specially-made election bags to remind residents when to vote.

Recent changes passed by the Texas Legislature have changed how pharmacists are reimbursed.

Mission pharmacist Dr. John Calvillo told Action 4 News that locally-owned pharmacies are becoming more expensive to run and their customers are paying more.

The association is not endorsing a candidate or party but aims to encourage the community to let their voice be heard.
