Rio Grande City wrestler Lisa Gonzalez is the Valley's newest state champion, taking home the gold medal at 148 pounds from the UIL tournament in Austin. Minutes after winning the title, Lisa joined Action 4 Sports reporter Joe Bowling live during Action 4 News at 6pm. Lisa was one of 5 local wrestlers who came home with medals, the Valley's best ever showing in that sport.

Friday afternoon in London, Rio Grande City's Stephen Saenz represented Mexico in the 2012 Summer Olympic Men's Shot Put competition. Saenz scratched on his first and second throws, but marked an 18.65 meter throw on his second. Unfortunately, that was not enough to make the top 12 and qualify for the final.

In the 5A boys soccer state title game, the Sharyland Rattlers trailed Katy Morton Ranch by a goal with 5 minutes to play, but came back to force overtime, then rebounded from being down 2-0 in the shootout to win 3-2 and claim the championship.

San Antonio Reagan held off McAllen Memorial in McAllen, as the Mustangs had the ball and a chance to tie with under a minute to play.
McAllen Memorial's 1st loss of the year ends their season at 12-1.

Donna high school called an emergency 30-5A District Executive Committee meeting Thursday in McAllen to discuss possible actions against Sharyland linebackers coach Felipe Barerra, caught on video taunting the Redskins sideline in last Friday's game between the two teams. .
