Alex Torres is the Republican candidate for State Representative, District 38. The district covers portions of Brownsville and Rio Hondo, San Benito and Harlingen.
Torres has been endorsed by prestigious groups as the Associated Republicans of Texas (ART), Hispanic Republicans of Texas (HRT) led by George P. Bush, Grassroots Institute of Texas (GRIT), Alliance for Life, and the National Rifle Association.
These groups hold conservative principles as does Torres: against same sex marriage,
gun control, Obamacare, but for protection of the Unborn, school prayer, balance budgets, extending tax cuts, and domestic oil exploration.
Alex will work for the protection of veterans rights, for the scope of veterans medical needs in Cameron, to fight for the state of the art in education in Cameron for facilities and equipment and for teachers to support these needs. In the Republican controlled State House and House committees his bills will be voted out of his committee for votes on the floor.
Torres holds values of faith, family, lower taxes, less regulations for economic growth in a pro–business Texas, and for honest, open government you can trust.
Alex was born and raised in the Valley. He was a migrant worker and has experienced the struggles of many Hispanics living in the Valley. Being bi-lingual he can converse with those less fortunate as to their needs. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1988 to 1993 receiving the Navy Good Conduct Medal and Ribbons for serving in the Southeast Asia Theatre and for the Liberation of Kuwait. His wife, Maricela, and Alex have three children. He holds an Educational One Aide certificate from the Texas Education Agency and an Associates Science Degree in Culinary Arts from TSTC.
Presently, he operates a small culinary business that “he built”.
