A Southmost mother is behind bars after her 2-year-old boy was found wandering the streets in the cold.
Cameron County sheriffs Department deputies arrested 28-year-old Nidia Mireles on Monday night.
Court records show her son was found wandering the streets in a neighborhood off Pierre Avenue just outside Brownsville city limits.
A man found the boy wandering without a shirt and shoes in Monday night's cold weather.
The man bundled the boy up in a sweater and called 911.
Deputies were eventually able to find the boy's home, which was more than a quarter-mile away from where he was found wandering.
Once at the home, deputies learned that Mireles had gone to a doctors appointment due to anxiety attacks.
Mireles arrived at the home and allegedly told deputies that she left to the doctor's appointment but left the children at home because she couldn't find a sitter.
Deputies arrested Mireles on a child endangerment charge.
The Southmost mother remains behind bars under a $15,000 bond.
