Six Houston area residents are behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after going on an electronics shopping spree with fake checks.

U.S. Secret Service agents arrested the following six people on federal charges over the weekend:

• Travonn Carlonnie Johnson
• Khalon Jovon Westbrooks
• Rachel Arriola
• Carlos Dashon McKinney
• Dayna Renae Gonzales
• Arnoldo Treviño

Court records released on Tuesday show that the six went through the Border Patrol checkpoint in two cars on Friday evening.

Border Patrol agents pulled them over for a secondary inspection.

Agents noticed they had a large number of checks, electronics and receipts from stores in Harlingen, San Benito and Brownsville.

The two groups in two cars denied knowing each other but agents found checks with names of Gonzales and Treviño in the other car.

Secret Service agents allege that they all worked together to create $30,000 dollars in fake payroll and personal checks.

The cashed checks were then allegedly used to buy iPads and other electronic items.

The six appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday.

Court records show that all six are from the Houston area where they had different criminal records.

Judge Recio denied bond for all six of them until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
