McAllen bank robber arrested, federal charges pending

A 21-year-old, who robbed a McAllen bank Friday evening could face federal charges.
Erick Lee Chiu was arrested at his home in Palmview Saturday afternoon.
Chiu robbed the IBC BankĀ on 2900 W. Expressway 83.
It was initially thought that he took $50,000, but authorities said he took less money than that.
He was seen leaving the bank in an older model Ford Focus and arrested less than 24 hours later.
McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said that they found him through Crime Stoppers tips.
During the robbery, he never showed a gun, but threatened the clerk with a note stating he had one.
Authorities were not able to find any weapons at the house, but recovered the wig he used during the robbery.
According to police, Chiu has a lengthy arrest record. He was on parole as of October 31.
He faces aggravated assault and bank robbery charges.
