Neighbors thought the bank robber had changed his ways since his release from prison.

For the families living on Tampico Rd, they thought it was a surprise to see their neighbor involved in the bank robbery at the IBC bank in McAllen.

One neighbor was on their way home just speaking about the robbery.

An unidentified man said, “My wife tells me this was the bank that was robbed yesterday… I told her I hadn't seen anything, I couldn’t imagine how much money was taken, my brother calls on the way home and says, there are a lot of police by your house, to our surprise.. the police, next to my house, they told me he was guy that robbed the bank."

Neighbors say they thought Erick Lee Chiu had changed his ways, he was just released from prison a couple of weeks ago.

The unidentified man said “They are never happy with what they have, the crimes keep getting worse and worse.”

The neighbor we spoke to says they’ve known Chiu since he was a little boy.

Their boys used to play together until Chiu started to associate with wrong people, he says a string of bad decisions lead to a scene like the one at his house.

Neighbors say they are glad crime stoppers played a part in Chiu’s arrest.
