Mariachi music from the Rio Grande Valley filled the Texas State Capitol on Thursday.

Some six student Mariachi groups performed in the Capitol’s rotunda for lawmakers and visitors.

The noon concert featured the UTPA Mariachi Band and five student groups from Starr County:

• Veteran's Middle School Mariachi Juvenil de America
• Rio Grande City High School Mariachi Cascabel
• Ringgold Middle School Mariachi Nuevo Cascabel
• Grulla Middle School Mariachi Grulla de Plata
• Grulla High School Mariachi Grulla de Plata

The Starr County student groups were all sponsored by Texas State Rep. Ryan Guillen (D-Rio Grande City).

Guillen filed House Resolution 288 honoring the students and their teachers.

A copy of the resolution will be given to each school.
