The Rio Grande Valley is bracing for the possibility of strong to severe storms through Wednesday morning.

As of Tuesday morning, scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms had dropped  rain and made for slick roads across southern Hidalgo county, and much of the Lower Valley.

Gusty winds and heavy rain were the main impacts of these storms, and should be the primary threat from anything that will form this evening.

As the day progresses, a potent storm system will sweep across northern Mexico and move into Central and South Texas.

As the upper-level energy approaches, our chances for strong thunderstorms will increase through the afternoon, leading up to better chances through the evening and into early Wednesday morning.

There is a slight risk that some storms may become severe with wind in excess of 60 mph and localized flooding due to heavy rain possible.

Minor to slight risk of an isolated tornado and hail do exist.  It is best to stay indoors if possible and avoid traveling on roadways.

The critical period for these storms will be between the hours of 6 pm Tuesday and 3 am Wednesday.
