Authorities have ruled the shooting death of a young man who lived north of Palmview as a suicide.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies were called out to Joshua Street early New Year's Day.
Deputies reported that 26-year-old Albert Alanis had been shot to death.
Family members said Alanis was a good son and a hard worker but was battling a heart condition and anxiety.
According to the family, Alanis constantly had to be medicated but couldn’t always afford it.
Preliminary autopsy results released on Thursday revealed Alanis died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
