Hidalgo County jailer accused of fleeing scene of DWI wreck

A Hidalgo County jailer is off the job after he allegedly got in a DWI wreck on New Year’s Eve and fled the scene.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño confirmed jailer Michael Balderas was involved in an auto accident on Monday night.

Sheriff Treviño said Balderas hit an another car and fled the scene.

No major were reported but authorities later arrested and charged Balderas on an driving while intoxicated.

Sheriff Treviño told Action 4 News that Balderas was fired after being arrested.
