People across the Rio Grande Valley are making their final preparations to ring in the new year.

From food, to drinks and party favors, last minute details for gatherings are being set so the celebration can begin!

However, you want to take extra caution if you'll be popping fireworks this holiday.

Lt. Richard Alvarez with the Harlingen Fire Dept. stopped by Action 4 Sunrise to give you some safety tips to help keep your family safe.

Lt. Alvarez wants to remind everyone across the Valley that igniting fireworks of any kind in city limits is illegal and could land you a hefty fine. Also, set them off in a safe location and never indoors, fireworks are meant to be used outside.
