Melinda Ann Guerra was a homemaker, mother of three and a grandmother.

"She was always helpful to everyone, said her aunt Minerva Gonzalez. “She was always there for people that needed her."

But Sunday night, her family says no one was there for Melinda when she died on the side of a road in Hidalgo County.

She was the passenger on a motorcycle which crashed, and is believed to have died instantly.

But authorities say the person driving the bike didn't stick around to call for help.

Instead, he left her body there, and made a run for it..

"You left her out there,” cried Gonzalez. “She died by herself. We just want to try to add closure where our family can be at peace."

DPS troopers were on the scene moments after the crash and are still working to identify the motorcyclist and the reason he fled from the scene.

"We're still trying to find out who the driver is,” said Trooper Johnny Hernandez. “It could have been fear of being intoxicated, or fear of just the law enforcement period."

Trooper Hernandez says witnesses saw the driver getting picked up by a black Chevy truck with Georgia license plates ending in the numbers "46".

The family does not know the suspect's relation to Melinda, saying that he was just an acquaintance.

They are willing to accept the fact that this could have been an accident, and the driver didn't intend to kill their loved one.

But only if the person responsible comes clean, since he is the last person to see Melinda alive.

"We just want you to come forward and turn yourself in,” said Gonzalez. “We don't blame you, maybe it was just an accident that happened. But we need for you to come forward and turn yourself in."
