Lucy Garcia said people seemed to have been very active in taking preventive measures regarding Alzheimer’s disease.

She said, we need to look at what’s a normal part of aging, what are the serious causes for concern.

Garcia said "It can be a scary time for somebody, just because there are a lot of unknowns, there’s a care for concern for needing to get medical and professional aid, when that person is at the point of putting themselves in danger or the family in danger due to excessive forgetfulness "

It's one of the reasons Catherine Whitney decided to get screened.

Whitney said "I have some friends that both he and her are slipping so badly that they don’t keep themselves clean anymore and I worry about them."

The prevalence of Alzheimer’s doubles every 5 years beyond age 65.

Warning signs of dementia include forgetting people’s names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills, and confusion over daily routines and erratic mood swings.

As many as 5.1 million Americans has Alzheimer’s disease and the numbers keep rising.

Testing can be done anytime during business hours at the Texas behavioral center.

The address is 2102 W. Trenton Road in Edinburg.
