The City of Palmhurst won the grocery store lottery.

Located between Mission and Alton, the town of 2,600 souls is getting a brand new HEB.

The 96,000-square foot store will include a from-scratch bakery, florist, drive-thru pharmacy and a nursery.

The store will be located off Mile 3 North just east of Conway Avenue and will serve thousands of people living in Palmhurst, Alton, Doffing, Citrus City and northwest Hidalgo County.

Texas State Rep. Bobby Guerra, city leaders and others were all on hand for the store’s groundbreaking on Friday morning.

“The Rio Grande Valley has as long history with H-E-B, and we are thrilled to be here today to help celebrate the groundbreaking of our new store,” said Palmhurst Mayor Ramiro J. Rodriguez, Jr.

HEB owns 350 stores in Texas and Mexico.

The company has 85 years time in the four counties of the Rio Grande Valley where it currently has 46 stores.
