A San Benito dad accused of giving his 9-month-old son a potentially lethal over-the-counter medicine has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in a gun-buying scheme.

Yashaun Manuel Roman appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Micaela Alvaraez in McAllen late last week.

Judge Alvarez sentenced the 23-year-old man to two years in fedearl prison for his role in the scheme.

Authorities transferred Roman back to the Cameron County Jail over the weekend where he's facing child endangerment and domestic violence charges in San Benito.

Investigators told Action 4 News back in January that Roman gave his sick infant son an herbal product known as "skullcap extract."

The over-the-counter medication contains a concentration of alcohol putting the baby to sleep 14 hours.

An argument with his mother about the medicine sparked a domestic violence incident where police where called to the family's home.

The child endangerment and domestic violence charges remain pending before the Cameron County District Attorney's Office.
