A one-year-old boy is currently in the pediatric intensive care unit at McAllen Medical Center, following an accident that left at least eight other people injured and ejected the baby from a vehicle.

According to Elmer de Guzman, House Supervisor of McAllen Medical Center, the boy is listed in critical but stable condition. He has been responsive to doctors and is not in need of any respiratory assistance.

McAllen police reported that the accident happened off Glasscock Rd. and Highway 107 after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Investigators said a total of nine people were injured in the accident.

The baby was not responding at the scene, prompting authorities to airlift the child to McAllen Medical Center.
